Lyandja
A Congolese fable about love, family and revenge, featuring dances, art
and music from the region’s various ethnic groups.
“Lyandja” is the most widely recognized piece of traditional Congolese
repertoire. It has been performed around the world.
Dowry
A musical tale of love and betrayal, promoting awareness of AIDS in
Africa. Written by Afrika Yetu’s Elie Kihonia, “Dowry” has been performed in
South Africa and the United States.
Bulamatari
The story of the first meeting between the Congolese and European
colonists at Matadi, Congo’s only port, and how it shaped the nation’s people,
for better or for worse.
Talking Drums
A very fun and very interactive performance featuring several African
master drummers – the audience picks up drums, and after a few quick lessons,
plays along.
Safari
Afrika Yetu’s school residency program, which culminates in a student
performance of traditional drum and dance. Read more about it on our
